Datcord? No, Discord...
At the prompting of a certain raider (who shall remain Shaboygles) we are trying to determine if we should stay with Ventrilo or shift to a Discord server. Our first official foray into this realm will be during the raid meeting, as Laurelynn has indicated. This is a guide to set up the Discord client and contains a few tips on how to disable annoying features.
Click this text to visit the Discord site and download the client. Once you download the app, install it. Otherwise, it makes a good waste of hard drive space. After it's done installing, it will run and you'll see a screen similar to the one below:
If this is your first time using Discord, you need to register an account by clicking the Register link under the login button. Simply provide an email address, a login name and a password, and you'll be logged in to your account. You should see a page like the following:
Next, click the Join a Server button. This will ask for a URL to instantly join. The URL is in the Guildies Only forum, under the sticky post named Discord Server Information. Once the URL is entered, you're in. You can start using Discord. However, until you verify your e-mail address (by clicking a button on an e-mail you received from Discord) your account is unverified, and you get an ugly orange banner at the top, like so:
The Discord rooms are on the left of the screen. There are two types of rooms: chat rooms (for typing messages) and voice rooms (for talking). Each section has a chat room (ending in -chat) meant for text corresponding to those sections. For instance raid-chat pertains to raiding links, strategies, etc. that the raiders can refer to. The room sections correspond to the Ventrilo sections as found in this post. Please adhere to these guidelines the same as you were in Vent.
That's it for now. I'll follow up this post with some menu features, how to set icons, etc. For now, get in and see if you like it. Feel free to reply to this post with comments, concerns, upvotes, clinical assessments, and questions you may have about Discord.
Happy yapping!

Thanks, Rog!
Let me clarify. If you are a raider or wish to raid with us this xpac, you MUST have Discord installed, set up, and operational in time for the kickoff meeting on the guild calendar. This is not a drill. You need to be able to hear AND speak, so make sure you test it beforehand. We will not delay the meeting for folks still setting up, and attendance is mandatory if you want to raid. So...ya know...get on that ;)
